Moveable Feast is currently in demo. It hasn’t been actively promoted yet. If you get here, and find that there’s nobody on board yet, please don’t think “lame!” and leave. Create a profile, and check back in a little bit. It takes time to build a community.

My name’s Jon. I live on Mayne Island, BC (Canada) – an island of about a thousand people. We’re a rural community; you’ll find way more farms here than you will shopping malls. During the summer, we have a wonderful, vibrant farmer’s market where you can purchase all kinds of fresh produce. During the winter, you can contact growers directly; but it’s a little hard to know who’s got what available. If you go to the local grocery store, they’re got everything there, but check the label: apples grown in New Zealand.

That’s weird. I know for a fact that we have over 200 species of apple on this island. Why would I want to buy something that’s been in transit/sitting in storage for well over a week when I can get apples directly off of the tree from any one of hundreds of people?

Big problem, simple solution

Wouldn’t it be great to be able to hit a site and see what’s in season, and who has a lot of it? Have no idea how to cook kale, or what to make with swiss chard? Want to connect with other people in your community, and support local growers while helping to reduce your overall carbon footprint? All you have to do is reach out.
